What is the online course about?

The Digital Transformation is having a huge impact on the the business world and human resource management activities. To prepare you with the skills you need to master the challenges ahead, we created the online course Human Resource Management in the Digital Age.

This online course offers deep insights into the processes, practices, and technological systems that organizations employ when they manage human resources (HR). You will learn about core functions of HR management - such as strategic HR management, workforce planning and change, recruiting and retention, HR development, and health and risk management. As the course title implies, you will also learn about the impact of information technologies on these core functions. Furthermore, you will gain an in-depth understanding of the organizational, ethical, and legal considerations which guide decision-makers in HR management.

Course instructors

Andreas Eckhardt is Professor of Human Resource Management with a special focus on digital transformation and change. His areas of expertise are trends in recruiting and employer branding as well as the use, adoption, and diffusion of information technologies in HR management. Andreas has published more than 80 articles in numerous scientific top-journals and conference proceedings and holds several editorial positions.

David Wagner is a member of the Visiting Faculty at GGS. His scientific interests are at the intersection of strategic management, innovation management, and information systems. In his research, he scrutinizes technology-enabled forms of collaboration and organization, particularly social media and online communities. David is a Manager of Customer Communities at Voycer AG and Head of Research at the German Association for Community Management (BVCM).

Teaching methods

Time on the course will be devoted to:

  • Video lectures based on the textbooks and several scientific articles
  • Interviews with HR practice partners from leading organisations and a legal expert
  • Individual online exercises
  • Collaborative group works

Active engagement with peers and contributions from everyone are crucial to the success of the course and to the shared learning experience. Thus, throughout the course you are encouraged to create, share, link and evaluate content. The application of knowledge will go beyond the individual learner and include the use of social networks and tools for collaborative working, problem-solving and process-related peer-review.
